2,5 years further into development shows this:

Video starts on the Nevada map, Nellis AFB.
From 4:30 in de the video, the map is swithed and the pilot flies over sea and then crosses the Normandy shore. This scenery is part of the Normandy map (made for the DCS WW2 sidekick).
From 8:30 onwards it shows a carrier landing in progress until touchdown.
When DCS F/A-18 E is released it should come with an updated carrier which has full launch and recover capabilities.

This is the authors setup:

Falcon Northwest Talon: i7 6770K, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1080ti, Windows 10, 1TB SSD, TM Warthog stick with extension / TWCS Throttle.

Says he runs at 60FPS all the time on 2.5 with new Caucasus map.

Well yeah he will be running 60FPS all the time, his pc build no doubt cost more than 3k

I'm reading a through the beta forum (i didn't update but wanted to wait on the final release) and quite a few people have performance issues on the beta even with high end PC's.
I was worried a bit that it would turn out that way because on my setup (i4770K OC'ed to 4.6GHz and a GTX780) I'm also having performance issues on open alpha with the Nevada map. As long as it's flying over the desert it's no problem (over 60 FPS) but once Vegas comes into view there's a performance drop (not that hugh but still).
So I'll wait on the final release and see how that performs and then decide what to do.
I'm thinking about GFX1080TI (the CPU should be still OK) but these cards are expensive AND hard to get (damn cryptominers).

If its in Alpha and Beta, then its still work in progress. I suspect closer to release, performance will be improved.
Graphic card prices are ridiculously expensive and is hampering PC gamers.

Been flying this bird since last week.
The beta version was already available a few weeks ago, together with the Persian Gulf map but since i uninstalled the alpha/beta's a while ago in favor for the release version, i had to wait a bit.
But since last week, i'm rocking the F/A-18C flightstick and throttle.
Since this version came out, keeping FPS over 60 is a hard time. It's either reducing details again of getting new hardware.
Over the years this has been my biggest frustrating point, not being able to enjoy all the hard work that went into graphical details of the sims simple because no hardware can keep up with it. Oh, quite some people say they run full detail on a screen 4 times bigger then mine (4K compared to 1920x1200) with a PC less performing then mine but i can only imagine stuttery motion then. So details down again to keep FPS up for now.

Having a hard time doing carrier landings. Keeping the bird at the desired landing speed is mostly a no go. I can manage getting on the deck but only with a higher speed then should be, if i stick to the desired landing speed, i often come a bit to short on the very final stage. Moving up the throttle pushes me over that landing speed again (135-140kts). If i don't use flaps it's mostly OK but flaps should be fully extended when landing and then the bird is hard (or harder) to control. Need to get used to the aircraft respons.

Another thing are bolters... if i get her on the deck (the F/A-18C that is), 9/10 i have a bolter and need to go around, only 1/10 the hook catches a wire. Looking at my own tracks i see the hook bolter and jump over the wires. I think i need to have a high angle of attack to have less bolters but then problem one comes in again, falling short at the start of the landing zone. And the view over the nose disapears then, together with the glidepath indicator and the velocity verctor moving off of the bottom of the hud leaving me clueless to where i am in relation to the deck... resulting in either to high or to low.
Tip on the net is to look at the "ball" but looking at the ball is mostly obstructed but the cockpit frame...

Well, more training i guess....Cool

After a day or 2 i can manage but still quite a bit of bolters (sometimes 4 in a row...LOL, no wind, calm water), mostly if landing before the first wire. Also, the AOA needs to be right. Playing with the throttle to keep the correct speed is important.
Done some catapult launches after landing too (direct catapult launch after start is nothing exiting but manouvering the jet onto the cat is precise work (no deck personel so...).
Didn't manage to hook up on cat 4 yet, somehow my position there isn't exactly right for the shuttle to hook up the jet.
